Minnesota Twins’ pitcher Francisco Liriano back in camp as Scott Diamond may make bullpen appearance
The Minnesota Twins’ pitcher, Francisco Liriano, who was side-lined due to shoulder soreness, is back in the camp to get ready for the Major League Baseball 2011 season. The pitcher missed his bull-pen session last week, but is now getting healthy. The Twins
are happy that their injured players are getting back to the field to prepare for the upcoming season.
Manager Ron Gardenhire had a lot to talk about and he made it a point to speak of Liriano.
"Just ongoing, he does his training work in there and then goes out on the field, and he played catch today and he ran through all the drills," Gardenhire said. "[The trainers] said, 'Do that for a few days and see where he's at' - see how he feels, and
then get him on a tennis shoe and then a bullpen, and then all those things."
The Rule 5 Draft pick, Scott Diamond may get the opportunity of a lifetime, as the Twins do not have the bull-pen strength that came forth in 2010. The young prospect can make his experience in the pen when the season gets underway. The pitcher has an easy
challenge ahead if he makes the spring training competition count well for him.
"I go out and look at him just like I do everybody else out there in this camp," Gardenhire said Monday. "When we break down in the end, the general manager says we want to keep this young man on our baseball team, then we find a way to keep him on our baseball
team if he deserves it."
The player will be up for a Rule 5 Draft pick again if he does not get selected in the 25-man roster. Scott used to be part of the Atlanta Braves prospects’ list, as he was taken up by Braves in 2008 and has gone to play in the Triple-A league, last season.
It will be interesting to see how the Twins will be able to manage their injured players, as they prepare for the upcoming season.
