Minnesota Twins rebounds to beat Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 for series win – MLB Update
The American League’s Minnesota Twins made their comeback by shutting out the interleague rival Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 in the rubber fixture to win the three-game series, at Target Field, on Wednesday, June 29.
The Twins starter’ Scott Baker had a devastating day with the ball, as he forced nine batters to go to their camp with some unplayable pitching. He went for seven innings and did not yield any run despite allowing six hits and walking one. After this brilliant
exhibition, Baker not only clinched his sixth win but also tied his team-mate Scott Erickson for 11th on the club’s all-time wins list.
Glen Perkins, who relieved Baker after he allowed a walk up the middle of the eighth inning, tossed all of his six pitches and took out two batters to finalise the eighth inning. Their closer Matt Capps was in perfect shape to save his 13th game
of the season.
Twins made only one run in the first inning when Tsuyoshi Nishioka grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Ben Revere to score the one and the only run of the game.
After receiving an early blow, the Dodgers’ ace Rubby De La Rosa strived hard to take his team back into the game but he did not have any support from the batters. Rosa, who had gone down in his last two games, strived hard to nip his losing streak but despite
restricting the Twins to one-score in his later six innings, he failed to convert this game into win.
Overall, he threw seven innings, allowed six hits, walked two and struck-out four batters to bear his third loss in 2011. Scott Elbert worked just four pitches and each of them was a ball that allowed the Twins a walk and to score another run in the eighth
inning. However, closer Blake Hawksworth completed this inning making two strike-outs.
It was one of great comeback for the Twins in this season as they have gone from the season’s worst defeat in the first game. However, after getting a humiliating 15-0 defeat, the Twins bounced back with their full strength and beat the Dodgers last night
by a score of 6-4 with some great pitching practice by their starter Brian Duensing. He worked five innings allowing four runs on four hits including a homer and walked four batters to snatch his fifth to end the club’s six-game losing streak.
Now, the Twins will have an off day tomorrow before hosting the Milwaukee Brewers, who until now has lost two consecutive games from the American League’s leaders New York Yankees, for the three-game series starting from the July 1.
