Minnesota Twins’ relief pitcher Joel Zumaya hurts elbow during training – MLB News
Joel Zumaya, the former Detroit Tigers and current Minnesota Twins’ ace relief pitcher, has once again hurt his elbow during training in Arizona of 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training.
The Twins general manager Terry Ryan stated in the media confirming Zumaya’s late elbow injury with bit disappointment. He said, “Anytime a guy gets an MRI, there's got to be concern, But, I'm not going to overreact until the results come out. Let's hope it's not something serious. Obviously he felt something that was discomforting so he came off, which was right, we’ve had this happen down here before.”
He added, “We've had people walk off the mound because they were hurt. I'm glad he came off there. We'll get it addressed tomorrow and see what the results of that MRI. It would be a little less concerning if we didn't have the history with him, which he's experienced in his career.”
Zumaya, who is known with his fast deliveries and frequent injuries, is again under huge pressure of having not been fit for the next regular season in the League. He could not play the last season only due to the same injury problems.
A five year veteran, with a history of injures, Zumaya has commented in the media earlier in the month as he is looking forward a great deal and hopefully this year, he will able to play the whole season.
This late elbow injury can prove cruel if it does not restore in time. The Twins’ before signing him were also hoping as Zumaya will be a great winning factor. Twins' management signed him with enormous devotion as they thought Zumaya can bring stability to their franchise.
The Twins, in their recent history lacked some pitching power and Zumaya was certainly a great pick. Lately not only his injury has made many things uncertain for the Twins, but his own future is also in limbo. Experts believe as the next few weeks are important when the official report of doctors will come and then anyone can guess when Zumaya will be returning on the ground.
