Minnesota Twins shock Detroit Tigers with 4-3 win in finale – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins shocked Detroit Tigers with a 4-3 win at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, May 17 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Ron Gardenhire will be very pleased to see his team win the series against the defending American League Central Division champions. The Twins have looked a bit out of sorts since the start of the season.
With just 12 wins and 26 losses this season, they have not been able to live to their immense potential. It will not be wrong to say that they have very little time to correct things to make it to the playoffs.
However, their series win against the Tigers was certainly one of the steps in the right direction. It will be interesting to see if the Twins can produce similar performances throughout the next month to get over the .500 win percentage mark before the
All Star Break.
Gardenhire will be pretty relaxed in his office after seeing his prime hitter getting back into form. Justin Morneau played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game as he hit a two run home run in his second game returning from a wrist injury and the
Twins beat the Tigers 4-3 in a dramatic fashion.
"We had some good things happen -- a good couple of wins here," Gardenhire said. "This is a great team. This is the team everybody's picked to win this division, and you come in here and you win a couple of ballgames against them, and you go toe to toe with
them. It's a good feeling. It's something we can kind of build off of."
Credit must be given to the Tigers for the way they fought back in closing stages of the game but the Twins held on through some pressure moments to secure an important win on Thursday evening.
Starting pitcher P.J. Walter will consider himself extremely lucky to win the game after allowing three solo home runs in just over six innings. It was only the second time he won two straight starts this season.
