Minnesota Twins shutout Los Angeles Angels 5-0 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins shutout Los Angeles Angels 5-0 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday, May 8 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Josh Willingham, once again, showed just why he is an asset for the Twins as helped his team take 3-0 lead in the opening inning. Minnesota continued to attack Angels’ pitchers and they added two more runs in the fifth to dent their opponents’ confidence
levels. Minnesota’s 5-0 lead proved sufficient for them to win the game comprehensively.
Los Angeles’ starting pitcher Dan Haren took his third loss after he allowed eight hits and five runs with two walks in just over 3 innings.
"The defense was awesome. I wouldn't have been able to have gone seven without them," said Scott Diamond after pitching six sharp innings.
"I gave up a bunch of hits to a team that's really struggling. That speaks to how I feel right there," said Haren.
"We needed a win bad. We needed something to jump-start us," Willingham said, adding: "We've been playing from behind a lot and maybe putting too much pressure on ourselves to get hits and score runs. It's a lot better to play ahead."
The Angles, who made the most of available opportunities in the opening game of the series, looked short of answers on Tuesday evening and they paid the ultimate price for their unforced errors. Twins’ pitchers produced a magical performance as the Angels
failed to put up a single run on the board.
After being outclassed in the opener, Minnesota bounced back strongly in the second game to level the series and it will be interesting to see if they can give similar results in the decisive finale to gain some sort of winning momentum.
Los Angeles will be disappointed at allowing their opponents to come back into the series. They sent a strong message across the league with a superb performance in their previous four games series against Toronto Blue Jays and the fans were expecting their
team to win the series comfortable but nothing can be predicted in baseball.
