Minnesota Twins sign eight players for Minor League- MLB News
The Minnesota Twins signed eight players for Minor League on Wednesday. Most of the signed players have had some Major League experience on their resume and three have received invites to the spring training.
The players include shortstop Ray Olmedo, right-hander Bryan Augenstein and outfielder Brandon Boggs will compete in Spring Training to grab a spot on the Twins roster. Others include right-handed pitchers Virgil Vasquez and Scott Elarton, left-handed pitchers
Jason Lane and Michael O'Connor and first baseman Reynaldo Rodriguez.
31-year-old shortstop Ray Olmedo played a part of his last season with the Chicago White Sox performing various infield duties. Since 2003, he has played in parts of six seasons. In 2012, he posted a .244 batting average with the exact same on-base percentage
in 41 at-bats.
 He mainly played for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, an affiliate team with the Chicago White Sox posting a .273 batting average in 275 at-bats.
Jason Lane spent a part of his 2012 season with the Reno Aces, a Triple-A affiliate with the Arizona Diamondbacks.  The 35-year-old mainly played for the Independent Sugar Land Skeeters and was named their Most Valuable player. Lane posted a 9-5 winning
record with a 3.17 ERA in 18 games.
He also played as an outfielder in 61 games posting a .275 batting average. He has been a part of the Major League in six seasons.
Left-handed pitcher Michael O'Connor has played for the New York Mets in the 2011 season. The 32-year-old played in 31 games, 15 as a starter for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre posting a 3-6 record with a 3.73 ERA.
Virgil Vasquez played for the Australian Baseball League and the Atlantic League in the last three years. His last stint in the Major League was in 2009 with the Pittsburgh Pirates where he had a 2-5 win-loss record in 14 games. The 30-year-old has been
a part of the Major League in parts of two seasons
Scott Elarton last featured in the Major League in 2008 for the Cleveland Indians. The 36-year-old pitcher was part of the Lehigh Valley, a Triple-A affiliate team of the Philadelphia Phillies. He ended with a 6-11 record with a 5.41 ERA in 2012.
Bryan Augenstein has pitched in two Major League season the last time in 2011 for the St. Louis Cardinals. His last season was spent with the Durham Bulls, a Triple-A affiliate with the Tampa Bay Rays Organisation. As a reliever, he had a 2-1 winning record
with a 3.59 ERA and also made three saves.
Reynaldo Rodriguez played for the Triple-A Pawtucket and Double-A Portland in the Boston Red Sox Minor League System. He posted a combined batting average of .249 with a .326 on-base percentage. He hit 16 home-runs and also batted in 53 runs.
The 29-year-old outfielder Brandon Boggs played for the Triple-A Indianapolis in 2012. He had 57 RBI’s and went long nine times, posting a batting average of .259 and an on-base percentage of .359. He last played in the Majors in 2011 for the Milwaukee Brewers.
This was the last of his four MLB stints thus far.  
Some of the players signed have had quite a lot of experience in the Minor Leagues and also have experienced some time in the Majors. It would be interesting to see if any of these players will be representing the Minnesota Twins in 2013 season.
