Minnesota Twins smash their way to 15-8 victory over Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins wrecked havoc at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox as they beat their hosts 15-8 on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. It has been a while since the Twins scored 15 runs in a single ballgame.
The game started off at a ballistic pace as the Twins got four runs in the first. Red Sox went a step further and scored five in the bottom of the first. Jonny Gomes grand slam helped the Boston Red Sox cause.
However, the top of the second saw even more action as the Minnesota hitters scored another seven. Apart from the solo home-run from Pedro Florimon, the runs came mostly through doubles hit by the Twins.
From there onwards, it was business as usual and both teams played what can be described as normal baseball. The 11 runs in the first two innings happened with almost a gap of 26-years.
Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire was quite excited about the performance that his boys displayed. He was happy that everyone was getting hits and they contributed which is always good for the team.
"So many guys up and down the lineup hit the ball," Gardenhire said. "Florimon had a really good night, and Mauer and a whole of bunch of other guys obviously with that many runs. So it was a good win for us."
Rookie pitcher Allen Webster bore most of the brunt in the start as he surrendered eight runs in less than two innings in just six hits.
For the Twins, rookie Oswaldo Arcia had a career high four hits. Trevor Plouffe and Pedro Florimon had three hits each in the game.
Catcher Joe Mauer had a decent day himself and was happy to see his team winning against a strong Boston Red Sox unit in their backyard. He hoped that the road trip can come with a victory for the Twins.
"It would be huge to pick up a series win against a quality ballclub like the Red Sox," Mauer said. "We have a chance to do that tomorrow on the last day, and that would be a good thing. It's been a long road trip, so if we can finish off with a win, it'll
make that plane ride a lot better."
Twins will certainly like to end their 10 game road trip by winning the four game series against the Red Sox. This win saw them not only make some records but also improve their current win-loss record to an even .500 with 15-15.
It will be great if the team can win the final game at Fenway Park to take some confidence back home and perform to the best of their abilities there.
