Minnesota Twins’ starter Liam Hendriks gets some attention after Tuesday’s game
Minnesota Twins’ starter Liam Hendricks was a part of the losing effort against the Seattle Mariners as the team lost 4-5 on Tuesday, September 20 at Target Field in Minneapolis.
The star hurler picked up a no decision as the opposition beat the Twins. The pitcher was involved in the first five innings but he was taken off on 5.1 innings when he conceded a two-run homer to Alex Liddi.
Hendriks’ display spelled an inconsistent term on the mound, as he gave up two runs in the first, before he started hitting the strike zone with authority in the following innings. Manager Ron Gardenhire was planning to take him off after the sixth inning
but his call came early after the Mariners equalised with a homer in the sixth.
"I was falling forward and overthrowing my pitches and dropping my head a lot," Liam Hendriks said. "They jumped all over us. Within three pitches I think I was down a run. But a credit to their team, they came out swinging and it scored them a couple runs
early."
Hendriks finished his performance with four runs allowed on 10 hits. He moved on to pick five strike-outs in the encounter. One important fact was that he maintained resistance throughout the first five innings to keep the Twins in the lead. His late display
however poured water all over his hard work.
Gardenhire had a few words to share to the press about the player, when the game was declared, over.
"Liam made the one bad pitch there at the end. That was probably the last hitter he was going to face," said Twins’ skipper Ron Gardenhire. "He hung a slider and tied the ballgame up."
Liam currently has an earned runs average of 6.23 as he has featured in three games so far. Prior to this game, he lost two fixtures against the Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox. The Twins will not be making it through to the playoffs, this season.
However they are looking to lend their rookie roster a chance at the Major Leagues in the last few games.
