Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Scott Baker undergoes Tommy John surgery – MLB News
The Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Scott Baker has received Tommy John procedure on his left elbow which is threatening his comeback until the next Major League Baseball season.
The flexor pronator tendon in his right elbow has been the real problem for 30-year old, who possesses some seven years of experience playing highly competitive game at the highest level.
His recent surgery requires a total twelve or more months of rest as the team doctors also agree that he should not be hurrying to play again instead take complete rest and try to prolong his career with the Twins and in the MLB.
Before his surgery, some media reports suggested that his injury is not serious as he might able to come soon even before the mid season break.
"It's not the scenario that anyone was hoping for," Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said Tuesday night for his player. "I know that, but they did prep Scott for that. Scotty told me that, so unfortunately they had to repair it. The ligament did not look good to the doctor, so they did the UCL."
"It happens more often than you think when someone has something and you go in and all the sudden it's a little different than you expected," Ryan added with more details, "and that is the case here."
Baker joined the Twins franchise in 2005 and over the past few years, has been performing well for them. His career ERA is also consistent at 4.15 along with 63-48 win loss record, 770 strikeouts and 1.26 WHIP.
In the meanwhile, this is not a good sign for the Twins who certainly needed Baker’s fast throws at the moment. Baker, who is known to give his best in every game, is also feeling disappointed on his current condition as he will not play for his team for a year or more.
Experts believe that Baker’s potential comeback is very important for the Twins. They are picking up the pace in this Major League Baseball season, but to achieve a good standing and post season qualification, they still need Baker’s service.
