Minnesota Twins stun Boston Red Sox 6-5 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins showed great mental strength and determination as they edged the Boston Red Sox 6-5 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, August 3 in second game of their four match series.
Boston made an aggressive start to the contest. Carl Crawford homered to right in the third to give the Red Sox a commanding 5-1 lead.
The Twins were also determined to get the better of their opponents. Josh Willingham walked and Denard Span scored to reduce the lead to 5-2. Justin Morneau’s RBI single to centre in the fifth gave Twins the momentum.
Danny Valencia had a sacrifice fly hit and Jamey Carroll drove in the go ahead run in the extra inning to help the Twins come back from behind to snatch a memorable win.
"(We) keep battling," said Carroll, who delivered the winning run in the tenth. "They got ahead early, but we felt like there was plenty of time. We've always seemed to come back and make it close. A lot of times, we haven't been able to get over the hump.
It seems like lately we've found a way to get the big hit."
Starting pitcher Brian Duensing pitched eight wavered innings, allowing five runs and ten hits with three strike-outs. Relief pitcher Jeff Gray allowed just a hit in 1.1 effective innings to grab his sixth win of the year.
"Gray gave us a really big performance," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
"We had chances. We just didn't come through," Pedroia said. "They made some good pitches. It's to their credit, too. It's just tough."
Credit should be given to the Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire who used his resources perfectly in both games to dominate the Red Sox in almost all areas.
With their win, the Twins improved their record to 46-60 but they still remain fourth placed on the American League Central Division standings table. It will be exciting to see if Minnesota can take some confidence from their recent performances to end the
season on a positive note.
The Twins will be excited by their victory as they managed to get their offence moving and take a decisive victory against the mighty Red Sox.
