Minnesota Twins upset Detroit Tigers 6-4- MLB Update
Minnesota Twins showed great fighting abilities and mental toughness as they upset Detroit Tigers 6-4 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Monday, July 2 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win against the Tigers on Monday afternoon, the Twins improved their record to 34-45. Credit should be given to the Manager Ron Gardenhire for keeping the players focused even in the most difficult of times.
The biggest problem for the Twins this season has remained their inability to win games at Target Field. Their road trip, on the other hand, has yielded far better results with Twins emerging victorious in 17 out of 37 games.
It will be interesting to see if the Twins, who have now won four straight, can continue their impressive winning streak throughout this series to stay within a touching distance of American League Central Division leaders the Chicago White Sox.
"This is all about getting 900 wins for our organization," Gardenhire said in a post game interview. "The people above me who gave me the chance, and the players that have gone out there and played the game. All I have ever had to do is tell them to play
the right way, play hard and respect the game. They did the rest."
Josh Willingham, once again, played a crucial part in deciding the outcome of the clash as he singled to centre in the fourth inning and Joe Mauer scored to level the score 1-1.
Trevor Plouffe earned an RBI Single to left in the fourth to give the Twins a 3-1 lead. With momentum on their side, Minnesota continued to put pressure on Jim Leyland and his men. Ryan Doumit singled to right in the fourth and Denard Span scored to extend
the Twins’ lead to 5-1.
Twins’ starting pitcher picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing just one hit and a walk in just over two innings of relief. His counterpart from the Tigers, Doug Fister continued his struggles on the mound to take his sixth loss of the season. The
Tigers will be looking to improve their performance and gain some much needed confidence in their line-up.
