Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox: Game 3 – MLB Post Game Analysis
The Minnesota Twins plunged to the bottom of the American League Central after a humiliating 0-3 loss against the refurbished Chicago White Sox at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 6.
Jake Peavy starred on the mound for the White Sox as he bagged his seventh win of the season to take Chicago past the Cleveland Indians to the second spot in the division and give his team an indisputable three-game lead in the four-game series.
Target Field is a well-known pitchers’ ballpark and rightly so, run scoring in this game was fairly difficult. Alejandro De Aza proved to be the light in this darkness for the White Sox as he drove in one run in the second inning to give the White Sox a
crucial one-run lead in the second inning as Adam Dunn completed his run.
Alex Rios then homered in the fourth inning to the favoured left-field to double the lead before De Aza added a run in the subsequent inning to give Chicago a three-run advantage over the struggling Twins.
This season is principally over for both teams but the result was an eye-opener for both teams in their preparation to trim the roster for the next year. De Aza has proven his worth as an outfielder as well as a batter this season and is more likely to be
promoted in the line-up for the subsequent games. His promotion will allow the White Sox to add depth to their line-up which, given the intensity of teams in the Majors, is a pre-requisite for every team now. Teams cannot afford to field players who are impasse
on the plate and thus a more vigilant line-up needs to be groomed.
Juan Pierre has been decent for Chicago this season at the top of the line-up but he has lacked consistency and this area needs to be developed before the next season to give tough opposition to the top teams. White Sox should aim for the silverware next
season and should structure their starting line-up accordingly.
Peavy impressed in his start for the White Sox as he pitched into the seventh inning for just four hits and registered nine strike-outs to level his win-loss record at 7-7. However, this win was not as impressive as it would have been if the opposition was
not a second-string Twins side which included three players from the Double-A.
There are rumours that the White Sox will not give more starts to Peavy this season because of persistent shoulder problems for the past two years. This might be a blessing in disguise for the 30-year-old pitcher who, in his words, has been “worn down and
tired”. The right-hand veteran stated that he will abide by the team’s stance and will do whatever the management wants him to do.
The White Sox will also want to take this opportunity to induct new blood to their rotation so that the prospects can get a feeler of the big stage before actually competing for the silverware next year. Manager Ozzie Guillen shunned talks about removing
Peavy from the team’s plan next season and stated that his performance has been shaky because he has just returned after major surgery, but he has all the ingredients to produce magic from the mound.
Guillen further commented that the White Sox are still in the pennant race, even though the probability is minimal, but to quit is not an option.
