Minnesota Twins win 10-7 against Kansas City Royals – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins battled past Kansas City Royals 10-7 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday, June 4 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Ron Gardenhire and his men displayed some top quality fighting skills in a game that was played on a very competitive note. Every now and then, the Twins come up with a masterful performance to show great depth and quality in their offence and defence and
their effort on Monday could be one of their major steps in the right direction.
Kansas City, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed to lose the opener in front of their home crowd. After shutting out Oakland Athletics twice in their previous three game series, the Royals were hoping to restrict Minnesota to a very small total
but that did not turn out to be the case. It will be interesting to see if they can come up with a better game plan in game two of this series.
"The whole thing is a blur," Twins’ relief pitcher Cole DeVries said, "to be honest with you."
"It feels awesome," he further added. "It's something I've been waiting for my whole life. When something like that happens, someone has to pick it up. I was happy to be able to do that, pick it up for the guys."
"It shows we can ad lib a little bit," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "We can pop a baseball, and I've always said if our pitcher gives us a chance, we can win some games."
Josh Willingham provided Minnesota with a perfect start, hitting a home run to left in the first inning to make the score 2-0. Jamey Carroll had an RBI single to centre in the second to put the Twins 3-0 ahead.
Justin Morneau hit a tie breaking two run home run in the fifth and Trevor Plouffe homered to left in the same inning to give the Twins complete control of the situation. Mike Moustakas, Jeff Francoeur and Eric Hosmer drove in crucial runs for Kansas City.
