Minnesota Vikings CB Chris Cook grateful for second chance as he resumes practice with teammates
Playing in the National Football League (NFL) is a dream for the players who are lucky enough to get the chance. However, some players off the field issues may put an end to that dream prematurely and they would spend the rest of their days ruing their mistakes.
That is what Minnesota Vikings cornerback, Chris Cook thought after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend and being left out of the squad by the franchise for the last ten games as he faced trial over the charges.
Now after being acquitted of all charges in March, he is back on the training ground and working with his teammates to get back up to speed.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday after a training session the 25-year-old cornerback is grateful to the franchise for giving him a second chance to live the NFL dream.
"I was just going day to day. I never really knew what was going to happen, when it was going to be over with or what decision the organization was going to make. I was always hopeful that they would keep me around and give me a second chance."
Drafted by the Vikings as a second round pick in 2010, the cornerback was missed by the franchise in defence as the team ended last season with one of the worst defences in the league and with a 3-13 record.
Cook added further that he will have to regain his teammates trust and was apologetic for letting them down last season.
"I feel like I have to earn (my teammates') trust again, I definitely let them down last year by being in the situation I was in and missing the 10 games. I'm really looking forward to earning their trust and being a contributing factor to the team."
This is another chance for the cornerback to prove himself as a top player. He will now have to ensure that another such run in with the law does not occur.
The cornerback played just six games for the Vikings last season as he recorded 20 tackles.
This is a make or break season for the defenseman and hopefully he can perform to his full abilities this year.
