Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson healing well from ACL injury - NFL News
Running back, Adrian Peterson, was sorely missed by Minnesota Vikings this season as their biggest offensive threat struggled to remain healthy throughout the year.
With Peterson missing from action the Vikings went 3-13 in the 2011-12 regular season, matching their franchise worst record.
However, there is some good news for Minnesota fans as Peterson in an interview on Friday revealed that his rehabilitation from a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury is right on track.
“I’m definitely making improvement. I’m starting to get my muscle tone and strength back into the legs. I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far. I’m extremely happy.”
The 26-year-old running back underwent surgery in December and was expected to miss out on the first few weeks of the new season as ACL injuries take a long time to heal.
Yet Peterson has surprisingly healed quickly, starting running practice on February 28th and is on target to make his return for the Vikings in their first game of the 2012-13 season.
The running back was hampered throughout the 2011-12 season with injuries but still managed 12 touchdowns for the franchise.
Peterson rushed for a total of 970 yards from 208 attempts while also making 18 receptions for 139 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Before the start of 2011-12 season, the Vikings had signed a new contract with Peterson making him the best paid player at his position in the National Football League and in the entire history of the league.
The Vikings though were without his services and struggled to make effective offensive plays.
Rookie quarterback, Christian Ponder, was marred by injuries as well leading Minnesota to miss out on the playoffs and end up in the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.
Peterson joined the Vikings in 2007 as a first-round draft pick and seventh overall. Impressing the Vikings hierarchy since the first day, the running back has become a firm fan favourite.
The 26-year-old has played 73 career games for Minnesota, rushing for a total of 6,752 yards and scoring 64 touchdowns.
With Minnesota looking to be heavily active in the drafts and free agency this year according to Vikings general manager, Rick Spielman, no signing though will be as heavily welcomed to the field as Peterson will be when he returns onto the field.
