Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson optimistic about chances to return to full fitness ahead of schedule - NFL News
Minnesota Vikings running back, Adrian Peterson, continues to show great progress as his recovery from torn anterior and medial collateral ligaments continues.
Such an injury would take a normal player almost an entire year before fully healing, but Peterson is an outlier as his recovery shows signs of progressing at a breakneck speed with the running back already taking limited part in practice.
His quick recovery has led him to target the first game of the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars for his return and he remains confident that he can be fully fit to take part in that game on September 9th.
Speaking to reporters during the Vikings minicamp training session on Wednesday, he was highly optimistic about his chances to return back to full fitness soon but said that there is still a lot more to go before he can take part in full training.
"I know my body overall, and I know I'm just not there yet. It's not terrible, but I'm not to where I know I need to be."
Vikings fans will be hoping that their star running back takes all the time he needs to become fully fit and not risk coming back too early to get injured again.
Speaking to reporters, Vikings head coach, Leslie Frazier, said that his running back is making great progress and there is still time for Peterson to recover to take part in the team’s mandatory training camp.
"He really is on course and still doing well, but we need to see him be able to cut, be able to explode out of a cut and change direction without having any residual effects from that. Then the next step would be maybe putting shoulder pads on and seeing
how he takes contact and seeing how he cuts when people come at him,"
Even though he is making cuts and showing the blazing speed that has helped him gain recognition as one of the best running backs to play in the National Football League (NFL), Peterson still has a long way to go before he can return to the field.
"I'm doing as much as I can.”
There are five more weeks to go before the start of the Vikings training camp and Peterson is gunning forward to become fit in time.
