Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson told to pay $ 1 million for jersey number change - NFL News
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is the most highly paid player in his position yet a million dollars is still too much to make the player consider a switch to a new jersey number.
The running back was considering changing his jersey number from the current 28 to 23 but had to reconsider when told the cost it will incur on his wallet to make what should be a simple move.
When Peterson mooted the change to the National Football League (NFL) he was dumbfounded by the reply he received.
League officials told him that a number change would entail changing all the replica shirts previously sold under his name and with Peterson being among the most well known players across America the cost of such an undertaking would amount to a cool $ 1
million.
Cue Shock and Awe.
Peterson on Thursday took to twitter to explain to his fans what had transpired and was visibly frustrated.
"So here is the deal with the number change! So I received a call and I was informed that I would've to buy all jerseys that's been produced & Thus far! N the total amount that I would have to pay blew my mind!!!!!," he wrote.
Well anyone can see the futility of changing a number for a million dollars and Peterson in a follow up tweet looked resigned to wearing his old number.
"Pay a mill to change number or keep the mill n continue to wear 28?! That's a easy one... h**l 28 it is!!! Lol," he wrote.
The running back had a brilliant 2010 season and followed up on that form in 2011 but injuries to his knee and the Vikings overall poor form hampered his productivity.
Peterson rushed for a total of 970-yards this season from 208 attempts and scored 12 touchdowns for Minnesota Vikings.
He also made 18 receptions for a gain of 139-yards and a touchdown.
However, his season ended prematurely as the running back sprained his knee badly and is currently undergoing rehabilitation to get it healed in time for the start of the 2012-13 season.
The Vikings had a poor year this time around under coach Leslie Frazier. Minnesota won just three out of 16 regular season games and this record matched their previous worst season record set way back in time.
Minnesota will now hope that Peterson recovers from his injury on time and that they start the 2012-13 season much better and return back among playoff contenders.
