Minnesota Vikings Waive Randy Moss
Just a few weeks after the Vikings traded a third-round draft pick to the New England Patriots to net deep threat Randy Moss, Minnesota waived the outspoken receiver on Monday, 1 November.
According to a number of Vikings players, coach Brad Childress did not provide a reason for Moss’ ousting, but merely informed them that the talented playmaker was no longer with the team.
“[Childress] just wanted to give everybody a heads-up and say this is what’s going on, and that’s it," Minnesota linebacker Ben Leber told the Star Tribune. “He didn’t really dive into any details, and just said that’s what we’re going to go with.”
According to Moss’ agent, Joel Segal, Moss was deeply saddened by the news that he had been released. “Randy is very sad to find out about being waived by the Vikings this morning,” the receiver’s agent said in an e-mail written to the Star Tribune. “He has
and always will remain fond of the fans in Minnesota. We will let the process of the waiver wire take its course and we will move on from there.”
According to various league sources, a number of teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, and even the New England Patriots, are interested
in signing Moss.
Moss, who has had his grievances with the media over the course of his 13-year career, had opted not to speak to reporters since 13 October, a decision that has led to a $25,000 fine from the NFL for failing to cooperate with the media.
The disgruntled receiver made his opinions known following yesterday’s 28-18 loss to his former team, the New England Patriots, as he said, “For the league to fine me $25,000, I’m not going to answer any more questions for the rest of this year. If it’s going
to be an interview, I’m going to conduct [it]. I’ll ask myself the questions, then give y’all the answers. So from here on out, I’m not answering any more questions for the rest of this season.”
Although Moss had amassed 13 receptions for 174 yards and two scores since rejoining the Vikings four games ago, Minnesota went just 1-3 in those games.
