Minnesota Vikings co-owner denies ever contacting Bill Parcells for head  coaching role - NFL News
When it was first rumoured that legendary former head coach, Bill Parcells would come out of retirement to coach the New Orleans Saints for a year, the news sent shockwaves across the league and it was also rumoured that the Minnesota Vikings are also looking
at Parcells to take over head coaching duties.
Parcells though in a recent interview stated that he will remain in retirement and would not coach in the league.
Minnesota Vikings, co-owner, Mark Wilf though said Saturday that the franchise never moved to bring the head coach to Minnesota and that the rumours were false.
"It's not true -- that was my reaction. That's why we quelled that report immediately and moved on with our business."
The Vikings current head coach, Leslie Frazier has an average record at the franchise with the team ending up 3-13 in the 2011-12 season.
Wilf though said that Parcells was never on their minds and no contact was ever made with the future Hall of Famer.
"No," Wilf said. "Never happened."
The co-owner also went on to explain the Vikings relative quiet in free agency.
"We were not inactive in free agency. There were players who were more top-headline players. But we've been very active in terms of the quantity of players [eight] we brought in and trying to create depth.
"There's a certain approach to this that the vast majority of successful teams follow. We know that if we follow that structure, we'll be successful for the long term."
He also went on to praise new general manager, Rick Spielman for his discipline and ability to plan out and execute a whole football operation.
Bill Parcells name first came up when the New Orleans Saints started looking for a new head coach to take over the role for an interim one-year period as coach Sean Payton serves his season long suspension.
A New York Post report linked the Vikings to the retired coach and also claimed that the owners had asked the 70-year-old to name his price for signing up with the franchise.
Minnesota will hope that this is the year quarterback, Christian Ponder with a full offseason behind him can deliver better performances and that their star players can stay injury free.
