Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen fined $21,000 – NFL News
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen was fined $21,000 on Wednesday for hitting Chicago Bears guard Lance Louis.
According to the Associated Press, the fine has not been announced by the National Football League (NFL) yet, but a league’s source informed about it.
During the 10-28 recent loss of Vikings against Bears, Allen hit Louis who had not seen him coming. Louis got his ACL torn in left knee. He was then sent to injured reserve.
According to Allen, it was a legal hit because he was trying to make a block for Louis who was going for tackle. He did that because he was taught to do that in such situations.
In the postgame press conference, he said:
"I never, ever try to intentionally hurt anybody. Just trying to make a block and spring our guys down sidelines. That's unfortunate."
Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith thought that it was a dirty hit and it was not needed at that time.
He said:
"I think he could have gotten blocked a little bit differently, but that's about all I can probably say about it."
Allen has made 32 tackles, seven sacks and a forced fumble this season. He has not given any comments on his fine or anything related to it.
He was drafted by Kansas City Chiefs in 2004 and in 2008 signed a six-year contract with the Vikings. He has 112 sacks in his career and has been to Pro Bowl four times.
Meanwhile, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has appreciated Allen. Rodgers said of him:
"I just think personally I have a lot of respect for him as I've got to know him. I appreciate not only the way he plays on the field, and he plays hard and between the whistles, but especially the stuff that he does off the field with his foundation for
the Wounded Warriors, that's just a very classy thing."
He faced a six-game suspension in 2007 for different reasons. It is not known yet whether he will get suspension for this incident or not.
At 6-5, Vikings are ranked 3rd in National Football Conference (NFC) North.
