Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier optimistic about RB Adrian Peterson - NFL news
Minnesota Vikings are feeling optimistic about the chances of running back, Adrian Peterson, returning to the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week one of the National Football League (NFL) regular season 2012-13.
Peterson who underwent surgery after tearing both his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and Medial Collateral Ligaments (MCL) last year, is rehabilitating well.
According to both the player and the franchise, Peterson’s progress has been unprecedented and he has recovered faster than other players facing similar injuries.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN Radio, Minnesota Vikings coach, Leslie Frazier, sounded highly optimistic about his star running back’s progress and said that there is a very good chance for him to make it in time for the Vikings season opener.
Frazier said:
"I don't know if we'll put him on the practice field anytime soon when we get to Mankato. But everything indicates there's a very good chance he may be ready for that Jacksonville game (the season opener.) We're still far enough out that you really can't
say that right now."
This will be music to the ears of Peterson.
The running back in many of his previous interviews has been trying to convince his coaches and the medical staff that he is ready to play and wants to play against the Jaguars.
Frazier though has remained cautious with Peterson and rightly so since he remains the best offensive player on the Vikings roster and if his season is cut short by a recurrence of the injury the Vikings will lose much of their scoring ability.
The head coach also went on to say:
"It's a challenge because he does things a little bit different. When you compare him to other guys that have had ACL injuries, he's just so far ahead of where they would be at the same time."
Peterson even faced with injury problems was by far the Vikings best player in 2011-12 which turned out to be one of the worst seasons for the franchise in history.
The running back rushed for 970 yards from 208 attempts and scored 12 touchdowns.
Minnesota Vikings will need a healthy Peterson in 2012-13 if they are to avoid another repeat of last season’s disappointing campaign.
