Minnesota Vikings performance report – NFL Special Part 1
Minnesota Vikings are also among the playoff contenders this season. By the end of Week 15, they were tied at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) North alongside Chicago Bears after winning eight out of their 14 games.
In this report we are going to review Vikings’ performance till Week 15 of the 2012 regular season.
Week 1: Jacksonville Jaguars
Vikings had an overtime win, 26-23, against Jaguars in the season opener.
Their start running back Adrian Peterson rushed for 3 yards to score a touchdown in the second quarter, and got another touchdown in the next quarter. He carried the ball 17 times for 84 yards.
Vikings rookie kicker Blair Walsh kicked four field goals; three of them came in the fourth quarter and last one in overtime.
Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder was 20 of 27 for 270 yards without scoring any touchdown and interception.
Their defence managed to force just a fumble in the game.
Week 2: Indianapolis Colts
Vikings offence was under pressure by Colts defence in first three quarters as they scored just six points in the first half.
Walsh kicked two field goals in first and second quarter respectively of the game. On the other hand, Colts had already taken their lead to 20-6.
Ponder broke out for more scores in the fourth quarter. He threw touchdown passes to wide receiver Stephen Burton (7 yards) and tight end Kyle Rudolph (6 yards) and tied the score at 20-20, with 31 seconds left in the game.
Colts gained the ball possession and they did not make any mistake in scoring the game-winning field goal with just eight seconds left in the game.
Week 3: San Francisco 49ers
It was Vikings’ second consecutive win at home. They beat 49ers by 24-13. 49ers were off tracked because they lost their time of possession.
Ponder performed really well. He threw two touchdown passes to Rudolph, one in first and other in the fourth quarter.
 He also rushed for 23 yards to score a touchdown in second quarter and finished 21 of 35 for 198 yards.
Vikings defence forced two fumbles and an interception against 49ers, and the offence was good at both passing and rushing.
Week 4: Detroit Lions
Vikings got first victory on road when they defeated Lions with a good margin of 20-13.
Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin started the lead with scoring a touchdown on a kickoff punt return of 105 yards.
Vikings cornerback Marcus Sherels rushed for 77 yards to score another touchdown on a punt return in the third quarter.
Ponder completed 16 of 26 passes for 111 yards without scoring any touchdown and making an interception.
Vikings defence stopped Lions for scoring any touchdowns until the end of the fourth quarter, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford got the chance to score a rushing touchdown in the final minutes of the game, but could not lead his team to a win.
Week 5: Tennessee Titans
Vikings played really well in a 30-7 win against Titans.
Vikings defence dominated the game and did not allow the Titans to make scoring plays frequently. The Titans were unable to score in the first three quarters.
Harvin was amazing throughout the game and scored two touchdowns.
In third quarter, he received a 10-yard pass from Ponder and scored his second touchdown. Walsh scored three field goals in the game.
