Minnesota Vikings performance report – NFL Special Part 3
Minnesota Vikings had their bye in Week 11. Till Week 10, they had won six games while losing four. They were standing at second position in National Football Conference (NFC) North.
In this part, we will review four games Vikings played after their bye week.
Week 12: Chicago Bears
Bears thrashed Vikings by 28-10 in their fourth loss on road. Bears’ solid defence made them face three penalties with two fumbles and an interception.
Vikings kicker Blair Walsh scored a 40-yard field goal in the beginning of the first quarter.
Bears ended the first half with the lead of 25-3. Later on, Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder sent a two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kyle Rudolph in the third quarter.
Ponder completed 22 of 43 passes for 159 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Week 13: Green Bay Packers
Packers, who are the leaders of NFC North, beat Vikings by 23-14. Packers remained dominant in the game until the end.
Vikings could only score in the second quarter of the game. Ponder threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Rudolph, while running back Adrian Peterson rushed for 82 yards and scored a touchdown.
Ponder finished with 12 of 25 passes for 119 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Peterson had 21 carries for 210 yards. He became the second player to rush for over 100 yards against Packers this season.
Week 14: Chicago Bears
It was Vikings’ sixth victory at home. In their second meeting of the season with the Bears, the Vikings were dominant this time and secured a win, 21-14.
Peterson gave a breakout performance. He scored two touchdowns of one yard each in the first quarter.
Vikings safety Harrison Smith scored a touchdown on an interception return in the third quarter of the game.
Ponder did not score any touchdown, and completed 11 of 17 passes for 91 yards with an interception.
Week 15: St. Louis Rams
Vikings won their second consecutive game by 36-22, against Rams. It was their fifth victory on road.
Ponder rushed for 5 yards and started the lead with 7-0. He completed 17 of 24 passes for 131 yards.
Peterson rushed for 82 yards and scored a touchdown in the second quarter. Later, Vikings defensive end Everson Griffin scored on an interception return.
Walsh kicked field goals of 50, 38, and 42 yards in the second quarter, and kicked two more during the rest of the game.
Ponder’s performance has not remained consistent in this season due to which the team has gone through a lot of difficulties.
