Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe slams Gregg Williams behaviour in audio tape - NFL News
Gregg Williams’ audio tape released last week has led many former and current players to give their opinion on this latest aspect of the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal.
The audio recording released by blogger and filmmaker Sean Pamphilon has gone viral on YouTube and former players have come out to condemn the behaviour displayed by Williams during the Saints defensive roster meeting.
Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe took to Twitter to talk about the audio tape and said that people who defend this type of behaviour have messed up the world.
" 'The way you earn respect is through fear'. Are you (expletive) kidding me? What kind of neanderthal message does that send. No wonder this world's so messed up if people think that's an appropriate way to act and are willing to defend that kind of behavior."
The audio was recorded during a Saints meeting just hours before the start of the National Football Conference divisional round game between the Saints and San Francisco 49ers.
The ex-defensive coordinator is heard telling his players to hurt 49ers players and target their injuries to get them out of the game.
Kluwe went on to add that 90% of the things talked about in the tape were normal things told to motivate players ahead of a big game but he further said.
“The part that is an issue is the other 10%, where he specifically talks about targeting ACL's, twisting guys' ankles in the pile, and trying to hit a concussion victim in the head again. That's why Goodell has to come down so hard on this; you don't want
that spreading."
National Football League (NFL) commissioner, Roger Goodell, moved quickly to announce severe punishments for the coaches involved in the bounty scheme and suspended Williams indefinitely from coaching in the league.
The former defensive coordinator has decided not to appeal the suspension and it seems that with the release of the recording his career as a coach is all but over.
Visanthe Shiancoe who is currently a free agent added with his own tweet.
"We could have a ring right now."
The impact of the bounty scandal will have repercussions for a long time to come.
