Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson vows to take the field – NFL News
It seems that Minnesota Vikings will put their star running back Adrian Peterson on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
It may not come as surprise to many as Peterson has been out of the game for nearly seven months because of an injury.
Yet it is Peterson himself who cannot digest such news, if it comes. He was present at Vikings’ training camp on Thursday, July 26, 2012. Talking about the possibility of being put on the PUP list, he said:
“I'm going to try to fight against it so I can get out there and be involved, but ultimately I know these guys are going to do what's best for this team. It feels good just to be around the guys and be around everyone who has supported
me through this process, and even more importantly, it's going to feel good to be able to participate and do some things with the guys. So I'm just excited to be here. I'm excited to get things going."
Vikings coaching and medical staff are yet to decide as to what extent Peterson should be allowed to practise.
Vikings’ head coach Leslie Frazier has been busy working out a plan for Peterson’s road to full recovery.
Talking about Peterson’s activities at training camp, Frazier said:
"He'll at least be out there doing something."
In the 2011 season, Peterson injured his ankle while playing against Washington Redskins. He had a reconstructive surgery to repair the medial collateral ligaments and torn anterior cruciate on his left knee.
Vikings will not hesitate in putting Peterson on the PUP list because they will have the option of getting him off it any time during the season.
Apart from Peterson’s placement on the PUP list, the most important thing is whether he will be able to have a full recovery before the start of the new season.
Peterson is among the league’s best running backs. Apart from the last season, he has always been able to cover more than 1,000 yards in a season. He is a vital part of Vikings’ offence.
