Minnesota Vikings to make game-time decision about playing running back Adrian Peterson – NFL News
Minnesota Vikings have still not yet revealed whether their elite running back Adrian Peterson will be able to play any part in the season opener against Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, September 09, 2012.
On Friday, September 07, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier backtracked from is comments made on Thursday. Frazier said that there was no need to announce the availability of Peterson for Week 1 game until Sunday. He said:
"We'll definitely have an answer on Sunday, one way or another.”
Frazier previously said that Peterson’s availability would be determined after Friday’s practice session.
Peterson’s road to recovery has taken many twists and turns during the entire offseason. He was initially put up on the physically unable to play (PUP) list at the time of the offseason minicamp.
Peterson himself had the confidence that he would be able to get himself fit before the start of the season, but Vikings have always taken the notion that they will not put Peterson on the field unless they are absolutely sure about his ability to deal with
rough nature of the game.
Peterson injured his knee during a game against Washington Redskins in Week 16 of the 2011 season. He was unable to participate in any of the four preseason games this year.
Vikings have already disclosed that they will limit the playtime of Peterson this season. The running back has accepted that his presence in the first game of the season is not in his hand. Peterson said:
"I'm below; I got Coach Frazier, then I've got the owner, there's a lot of people that's really calling the shots. So, only thing I can do is control my part. I've been doing that this week, continue to do that today. And before the game, I'm going to go
out there and see what I can do and hopefully I will get the nod. I want to play, obviously."
Peterson is probably the best player on the Vikings roster. He is a four-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler. He is one of the most lethal running backs currently playing in the league.
