Minnesota Wild and General Manager Chuck Fletcher working on contract extension –NHL Update
Minnesota was undoubtedly the team to beat early on in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season but a few injuries spoiled all the fun for the Wild. Nevertheless, despite missing the playoffs for another year, there is news that general
manager, Chuck Fletcher, will be staying with the team.
With recent news of Colorado Avalanche head coach, Joe Sacco, getting a two-year contract extensions, Minnesota has also decided to take into consideration extending their own general manager’s deal.
Being optimistic is the only way to go in the NHL otherwise other clubs will definitely take advantage and Minnesota Wild owner, Craig Leipold, is definitely nothing less than that. Instead of criticising their performance during the now past regular season,
Leipold has expressed hope in his team for the upcoming hockey year.
"Chuck's team is coming in next year. The guys who his people have scouted, who his people have drafted, who he has developed are these great, young prospects," Leipold said, "and I think the next couple of years are going to be really proud years."
Not only will Minnesota confirm their own employees, the Wild will also be an extremely busy team during the offseason in acquiring and shifting players according to their needs.
Fletcher played a major role in getting some great players over last year’s offseason and Minnesota is committed to him doing the same this time around.
Trading, signing and acquiring are all part of taking risks and Leipold knows that Fletcher knows what he is doing when taking those chances.
"We aren't going to sit still this summer. We'll do something, whether it's playing in the free agency market or talking to some other teams about doing some trades. Chuck has certainly shown that he's not afraid to pull the trigger," Leipold said.
Minnesota is also working towards attracting more fans towards their home games as right now, the stats stand at 12,000 while they would like to push it towards the 16,000 mark.
With Fletcher nearly confirmed for another season or more, Minnesota can now concentrate on bringing in the talent needed to boost performance and standings next season.
