Minnesota Wild defeat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in over-time – NHL Recap

The Minnesota Wild beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in over-time at the Honda Centre on Friday. It was an exciting game as both teams are caught in the midst of a very close National Hockey League play-off battle in the Western Conference. A win by either team
would be very important if they are hoping for a play-off spot.
The scores were level into the final period as both teams scored in the final minutes of play. At the end of the regulation time, the scores were level on 2-2 which meant that the game had to be decided in overtime. Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored the winning
goal for the Wild and was named as the Player of the Game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them making shots on goal every now and then. Though some brilliant pieces of play were observed, but the final touches were disappointing. The Wild scored in the 16th minute to get into the
lead with John Madden scoring from a brilliant flick-shot. Both teams continued to pile shots on goal and there were several chances for both teams to score but they failed in doing so and the period ended with the Wild leading 1-0. During the period, the
Wild made 12 goal attempts, as the Ducks managed 10.
The Ducks were strong at the start of the second period, as they came up with some splendid pieces of play. The team had many chances, but they failed to grab the opportunities and were unable to score early on.
Anaheim scored in the 10th minute to level the scores with Bobby Ryan scoring the goal from a brilliant tip-in shot. This was the only goal of the period, as the 20 minutes of play ended with the scores level on 1-1 with Ducks making 10 goal attempts
and the Wild managing 10 attempts.
Both teams came up with decent effort in the final period which saw decent scoring chances. The Wild scored in the 16th minute to go ahead with Clayton Stoner scoring the goal from a brilliant strike. The Ducks came out very strong after the goal
and they too scored in the 18th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Francois Beauchemin from a decent flick shot.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 which meant that the game had to be decided in overtime. During overtime, Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored in the 5th minute to win the game 3-2 for the Wild.
