Minnesota Wild defeat the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 – NHL Recap
The Minnesota Wild beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 at the Xcel Energy Centre on Tuesday. The game was important for the Wild, as they are in the ninth spot of the National Hockey League Western Conference. After a loss last time out, the Wild needed a win
to keep in touch with the Los Angeles Kings who occupy the final play-off spot in the Conference.
The game started with the Wild making a decent start that saw them leading at the end of the first period by a goal. The Avalanche scored twice in the second period and the Wild scoring once to level the scores on 2-2 as the period ended. However, the Wild
put their foot on the gas and scored thrice in the final period to win the game 5-2. Brent Burns of the Wild was named the Star of the Game for coming up with an assist that resulted in the first goal.
A slow start to the game was observed as both teams were reluctant to go on the attack. They waited for spaces to develop. With the passage of time, the plays started to intensify, but the defence of both teams was up to the mark, as they cut down any attacks
that could have lead towards the opposing team scoring a goal.
The Wild offence proved to be very strong and broke past the opposing defence, as they managed to score in the 8th minute through Martin Havlat from a well placed shot to get into the lead. The period moved on with both teams making a few shots
on goal, but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Wild leading 1-0. During the period, the Wild made 5 shots on goal, as the Avalanche managed 7 shots.
The second period saw the Avalanche very strong on the offence early on, as they managed to score in the 7th minute through Kevin Porter from a decent strike to bring them level. The Avalanche kept on piling on the pressure and scored once again
in the 17th minute through Paul Stastny from a brilliant back-hand shot during the power-play to get into the lead.
The Wild were able to respond with some strong attacks that saw them scoring in the very next minute through Andrew Brunette during the power-play to level the score. The period ended with the Avalanche making 15 shots on goal and the Wild made 11 shots,
as the scores were level 2-2.
The final period was dominated by the Wild, as they scored in the 11th minute to get into the lead with John Madden scoring. The Wild scored once again in the 14th minute through Jared Spurgeon’s goal from a brilliant back-hand shot.
The Avalanche came up with some decent plays, but it was the Wild who scored once again in the final minute through Kyle Brodziak to win the game 5-2. The final period saw the Avalanche making 8 shots on goal, as the Wild made 9.
