Minnesota Wild defeat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in shoot-out – NHL Recap

The Minnesota Wild beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in a shoot-out at the Scottrade Arena on Tuesday. Both teams are in a difficult position to make it into the National Hockey League play-off cut, but they needed the win to keep their hopes alive. The Wild
and Blues are both 10 and 11 points out of contention respectively, but a win could still give them a chance.
The game started off with the Wild scoring the opening goal of the game to get into the lead. The Blues were also able to construct some decent plays and scored to level the score. The second period saw both teams coming up with some decent plays, but none
of the shots were able to find the back of the net. The period ended with the score still level on 1-1. The final period saw both teams scoring a goal apiece which took the game in over-time. The Blues finally won the game after the shoot-out with Mikko Koivu
named the Star of the Game.
The Wild made a decent start to the game which saw them bagging a goal in the second minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Eric Nystrom from a well placed flick-shot. Both teams continued to fire shots on goal and there were plenty of chances
for both teams before the Blues scored once again in the 12th minute to level the score.
The goal was scored by Chris Stewart during the power-play to level the scores from a quick fired and well placed shot. There were a couple of more shots on goal, but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the score level on 1-1. The Wild
made 9 shots on goal during the period while the Blues made 11 attempts.
The second period began with both teams starting on the slower side, but they gained confidence and got better with the passage of time. The Wild had two or three clear cut scoring chances, but the shots went just wide off the target.
The period ended with the scores still level on 1-1 with the Wild making five shots on goal during the period while the Blues made seven attempts.
The final period began with the both teams making shots on goal right from the start and it was the Blues who scored in the second minute through Chris Stewart from a well placed flick-shot to get back into the lead.
The Wild were able to fight back and scored in the fourth minute through Pierre-Marc Bouchard from a decent strike. There were a few more shots on goal, but none of the shots found the back of the net.
The period ended with the score level on 2-2 with the Blues making 10 shots on goal while the Wild made six attempts.
The game went into over-time as a result, but no goals were scored. It was Wild who managed to win the game 3-2 after the shoot-out.
