Minnesota Wild deny Los Angeles Kings third period comeback take match 4-2 -NHL Update
Los Angeles tried to make a third period comeback but were denied by the Minnesota Wild who took down the Kings, 4-2, on Thursday night, December 8, 2011, at the sold-out STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Matt Hackett made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut start as the goalie for Minnesota Wild and faced a crazy amount of shots but stayed strong by blocking 42 of 44 attempts on his net.
"I can't explain it. It's been crazy," said Hackett. "It's the best 72 hours of my life so far. I'm just living the dream right now, and I just want to keep it going. Usually, I have a pregame nap, but I was so excited to play that I really didn't get to
sleep. I was just focusing on what I was supposed to do, and I felt like I did it pretty well."
Mikko Koivu, captain for the Minnesota Wild, made the first goal of the night for his sixth of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season only 24 seconds into the opening period which was followed by Darroll Powe in the opening two minutes of the second 20 minute
round and Marco Scandella with his third at the 16:02 mark.
Los Angeles was down a disappointing 3-0 entering the third and final period which put them on the edge and in desperation to make some goals to at the least save themselves from the embarrassment of a shutout.
Dustin Penner finally put the Kings on the scoreboard at the 3:59 mark of the third period followed by the insurance goal by Minnesota’s, Cody Almond, for his first of the season and Trent Hunter with LA’s last and his inaugural after which the home team
failed to pot any more.
"I can't even explain it," Hackett said of the past 72 hours. "It's been crazy. The best 72 hours of my life so far. We've got to keep it going."
Minnesota has the next against the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday while Los Angeles Kings will be looking to snap their three-game losing streak against the Dallas Stars on the same day.
