Minnesota Wild looking to rebound with newly acquired talent Zach Parise, Ryan Suter -NHL Update
Minnesota Wild is in the spotlight now as the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise surprisingly managed to score not only top free agency prospect, Zach Parise, but also grabbed hot defenseman, Ryan Suter, over these past few days.
With all that power in one team, Minnesota is definitely looking to revamp everything in their team and become top level contenders for the upcoming regular season.
The last few years have been disappointing for Minnesota and the trying is something that the Wild management has been doing, but unfortunately, things have not been working their way until now that is.
It was easy to see that General Manager Chuck Fletcher was having a hard time containing his excitement.
"We've been trying to put the best team on the ice for the last few years," Fletcher said. "We've obviously been trying to build aggressively through the draft in the last three years and build up a foundation of talent that we could get to a point where
players could look at us and say, 'They have a bright future ahead of them.' From a drafting and developing standpoint, we have been working hard at this for a while, and yet we have been trying to win. There was an opportunity this summer, with our cap space
and a commitment from [owner Craig Leopold] to try to go out and be aggressive in free agency and we did that."
Zach Parise, former captain of New Jersey Devils, led the team to the Stanley Cup Finals this year but lost by an inch to Los Angeles Kings. The 27-year-old was signed on to a mega 13-year, $98 million contract. He has 502 games under his belt with 410 points
(194 goals, 216 assists).
Ryan Suter on the other hand, was viewed to be a top prospect for Detroit Red Wings after captain Nicklas Lidstrom called it quits earlier this year. The defenseman was also signed on to an identical 13-year contract. He has played 542 games up until now
and holds a record of 238 points (38 goals, 200 assists).
Both players will be playing on different teams from their original draft club for the first time in their careers.
