Minnesota Wild notch up a second consecutive win defeating Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in a tight match
The final match of Thursday saw Colorado Avalanche playing host to the Minnesota Wild. The match was played at the Pepsi Centre and was the 775th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. Both teams aren’t particularly having a good season
but every match is very important. Colorado Avalanche dominated two period of the match in terms of goal attempts but it was Minnesota who won the match 4-3 in the end.
Andrew Brunette, forward of the Minnesota Wild was named the star selection of the match for the two important goals he scored.
The first period started with Minnesota Wild absolutely exploding at the start of the match which saw them scoring immediately in the very first minute through Kyle Brodziak from a flick shot to get into the lead.
Minnesota Wild kept on piling the pressure which saw them attacking and firing shots on goal from everywhere on the pitch. It didn’t take them long to score as Andrew Brunette doubled their lead in the very next minute from a brilliant wrap around shot.
Minnesota Wild knew that their defence was weak so they started to concentrate on that more and continued with the attacks as well. Colorado Avalanche started to find some space and this gave them a lot confidence. The confidence resulted in the started
to create decent plays and firing numerous shots on goal. The Minnesota defence and goal keeper were up to the challenge as they didn’t allow any goals till the very end of the period.
Minnesota Wild led 2-0 at the end of the first period. During the period, Minnesota Wild made 5 goal attempts while Colorado Avalanche made 12 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams making a slow start compared to the first one. There were few shots on goal and it took some time for the first goal to be scored. However, much to the delight of the fans it was Colorado who scored through Milan Hejduk in
the 11th minute to trail by one goal.
However, Minnesota Wild was determined not to give Colorado any breathing space and they did this by scoring once again in the 17th minute with the goal scored by Andrew Brunette. After this, the period was totally dominated by the Minnesota.
They controlled the pace of the match and fire shots on goal regularly. However, they didn’t score any goals but still it was a quite a show that they put up.
The period ended with Minnesota Wild leading 3-1 as the teams went into the break. Colorado Avalanche made 10 goal attempts in the period while Minnesota Wild made 17 goal attempts.
Colorado Avalanche dominated the final period of the match but a defence lapse at a crucial stage cost them the match. The home team scored as soon as the period started through Milan Hejduk. They were definitely the stronger team but a miss-hit at the back
saw the puck land in front of Pierre-Marc Bouchard who scored from a brilliant backhand shot in favour of the Wild.
Though Colorado Avalanche managed to pull one back and cut the lead to just a goal scoring through Chris Stewart but it was a little too late as the goal was scored in the final minute. The period ended with Minnesota Wild winning the match 4-3 in the end
even though they made just 3 goal attempts in the final period compared to the 19 made by Colorado Avalanche!
