Minnesota Wild squares off against Toronto Maple Leafs in the one and only meeting between them
Minnesota Wild will host Toronto Maple Leafs at the Xcel Energy Center in another one of Tuesday’s game.
This will be the one and only meeting between the two teams during the course of the season.
The last time these two teams met was during the course of the last season which saw Wild dominating the game and winning it 5-2 in the end.
Both teams are struggling with their recent form and are outside the playoff cut but can still qualify into the cut.
Both the teams still have a chance of crawling their way in the top eight positions given the close points in both the Conferences.
Maple Leafs faced Boston Bruins in their last game looking to notch up some important points. This is exactly what they did and won the game in the end.
Maple Leafs are six points behind the eighth spot in the Conference and if they can win the game, they will draw closer to the cut.
Wild, on the other hand, one of the most struggling and poor teams in the last few games, has lost their last six consecutive games which have seen them allowing 28 goals and scoring only nine goals.
They have slipped to the 11th spot in the Conference and from the looks of it they are going to fall even further if they don’t start to notch up wins.
They can bid their playoff hopes good bye if they don’t come up with wins in the remaining part of the regular season.
“Our execution was probably the worst I've seen in just about two years now here", Minnesota’s coach, Todd Richards, said. "Decisions with the puck, without the puck, our defensemen were chasing back a lot. I felt bad for Theo (goalie Jose Theodore) because
we put him in some really tough predicaments on the ice. I need to be better as a coach, and the players need to be better as players".
Wild has played 73 games so far during the course of the season out of which it has won 35 games in regulation time and eight games in overtime to score a total of 78 points.
On the other hand, Maple Leafs has played 73 games as well. It has won 32 games in regulation time and 10 games in overtime to score a total of 74 points.
Maple Leafs are starting to find their form and they came up with a superb performance against Boston Bruins in their last game which saw them dominating the game for quite a few minutes during the course of the period. They won the game 5-2 in the end.
"Good teams, they get contributions all the way up and down the lineup," Crabb said. Kadri echoed that sentiment, "If you want to make the playoffs, you need secondary scoring."
