Minnesota Wild win 4-2 against defending champions Chicago Blackhawks
Defending champions, Chicago Blackhawks played host to the Minnesota as part of the 740th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match took place this Tuesday at the United Centre with around 21,000 fans coming to witness the match.
After falling behind 2-1 at the end of the first period, Minnesota Wild managed to come up with a superb performance and strong offence and defence which saw them winning the match 4-2 in the end. Nicklas Backstrom, goal keeper of the Minnesota Wild was
named the star selection of the match as he made 31 saves during the course of the match.
Minnesota Wild was quick out of the blocks and quickly settled into the match. There was a lot of confidence in their plays and passing. The quickness in their plays saw them leaving Chicago Blackhawks stunned at times.
The away side with the constant pressure successfully took the lead with the goal scored by Martin Havlat in the 2nd minute from a brilliant flick shot. Chicago Blackhawks also started to attacks as they gained a lot of confidence developing decent
pieces of play. Chicago through the hard work they put in successfully levelled the scores in the 4th minute with the goal scored by Patrick Sharp.
Both teams pressed on and kept on piling the pressure but it was Chicago Blackhawks who managed to score their second goal and get into the lead. The goal was scored by Troy Brouwer from a decent strike in the 10th minute. The rest of the period
saw both teams coming across more scoring chances but they failed to convert them into goals.
The period ended with the Chicago Blackhawks leading 2-1 as they made 12 goal attempts while Minnesota Wild made 8 goal attempts. There were three penalties during the course of the first period, one for Minnesota and two for Chicago.
The second period continued on the same roads with the both teams continuing to attack and coming across scoring chances. However, it was Minnesota Wild who scored through Chuck Kobasew in the 3rd minute to level the scores.
The puck was seeing going to and fro on the pitch with both teams firing shots on goal from everywhere on the pitch every now and then. Minnesota Wild silenced the home crowd as they scored in 17th minute through Antti Miettinen from a simple
tip in shot to get into the lead.
The period ended with no further goals and Minnesota Wild leading 3-2. During the course of the period Minnesota Wild made 9 goal attempts while Chicago Blackhawks made 11 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Chicago Blackhawks come out strong as they kept possession and made more goal attempts during the course of the period. However, it was Minnesota Wild who scored through Pierre-Marc Bouchard in the 11th minute from a spectacular
backhand shot to seal the match 4-2.
The period and match ended with Chicago Blackhawks trying desperately to score but they weren’t successful. During the final 20 minutes of play Minnesota Wild made 5 goal attempts while Chicago Blackhawks made 10 goal attempts.
