Minnesota Wild wins 3-1 against the New York Rangers
The second game of Thursday was played at the Madison Square Garden as the home team, New York Rangers squared off against the Minnesota Wild. A win was more important for the Wild if we talking about the fact of making it into the play-off cut.
However, the Rangers also needed the victory to cement a hold on their seventh position on the Western Conference.
The game was on a whole dominated by the Rangers and they were by far the most productive teams in terms of goal attempts during the course of the game.
The Rangers were leading at the end of the first period but the Wild managed to score thrice during the next two periods to win the game 3-1 in the end.
Kyle Brodziak, centre of the Wild was named the star of the game for scoring a goal and making an important assist.
The Rangers with the home ice advantage got off to a flying start and came across scoring chances right from the start of the proceedings.
The home team was able to score in the 4th minute through Sean Avery from a quick fired shot to get into the lead. The Rangers dominated the game and this remained the case for most of the first period.
Their defence was excellent as they didn’t give the opposing teams any space to work and cut down attacks every now and then. Though the Wild came up with a few shots on goal but they weren’t able to score any goals. The Rangers offence was absolutely on
top but they failed to find the back of the net.
The period ended with the Rangers leading 1-0. During the 20 minutes of play saw the Rangers making 8 goal attempts while the Wild could manage just three shots on goal.
The second period started off with the Rangers on top once again as they came up with shots on goal right from the start. However, it was the Wild who scored the first goal of the period which was courtesy of Kyle Brodziak.
The goal was scored as a result of brilliant tip in shot during power play in the fifth minute. The Rangers continued with the dominating performance with the Wild also making a few shots on goal in between.
The Wild proved to be more productive of the two teams and scored through Casey Wellman from another splendid tip in shot to get into the lead.
The period ended with no further goals with the Wild leading 2-1. During the period, the Rangers made 17 goal attempts while the Wild made 8 goal attempts.
The final period was a reflection of the previous period where the Rangers dominated the game but it was the Wild who scored the goals.
During the course of the period the Rangers made 16 shots on goal while the Wild made 8 goal attempts.
However, it was the Wild who scored the only goal of the period in the 9th minute through Pierre-Marc Bouchard to win the game by 3-1 in the end.
