Minnesota Wild wins 3-2 against Colorado Avalanche
Another one of the games of Wednesday was hosted by the Minnesota Wild as they were up against the Colorado Avalanche. The game was eagerly awaited as both teams desperately wanted a win in their search for a play-off position.
Minnesota Wild was the stronger of the two teams keeping in mind their recent form. They met expectations and successfully emerged as 3-2 winners of the game scoring twice in the first period and once in the second. Andrew Brunette, winger was the player
of the match who made three goal attempts and did an excellent job going back and defending and then attacking from the wings.
The game saw both teams making a cautious start as they waited maintain a strong defence. No spaces developed early on as a result. Though there were several chances for the teams to move forward but they were reluctant in doing that early on.
Minnesota Wild was solid in the middle as most of the plays were constructed from there. Though the occasional mistakes were made by Minnesota but the strong defence was able to come to the rescue. Colorado Avalanche grew in confidence and started to penetrate
the opposing defence after a few minutes.
Both teams started to open and goals attempts started to increase. All of sudden, the game caught pace and with hungry frontline there was a flurry of goals which saw three goals being scored in the 16th minute.
The first goal was scored by Antti Miettinen from a powerful strike to put Minnesota Wild in the lead. Colorado Avalanche successfully levelled the scored scoring in the very first play after restart though David Jones. But Martin Havlat scored once again
in the very same minute to put Minnesota Wild back into the lead scoring through a brilliant flick shot.
Minnesota Wild ended the period ended on a high as they controlled the pace of the game but they didn’t score any further goals. Minnesota Wild led 2-1 going into the break and they made 14 goal attempts in the period while Colorado Avalanche made 10 goal
attempts.
The second was mostly dominated by the Avalanche in terms of goal attempts as they tried hard to score. On the other hand, Minnesota Wild preferred staying back and waiting for chances to come their way while they defended.
Minnesota did an excellent job at the back and also scored in the 11th minute through John Madden from a quick fired shot that caught the goal keeper by surprise and doubled Minnesota’s lead.
Colorado Avalanche fired shots on goal till the end of the period but couldn’t score. Minnesota Wild led 3-1 going into the break. Minnesota Wild made 4 goal attempts in the period while their opposition made 10 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Colorado Avalanche scoring in the very first minute through David Jones to cut the lead to just one goal. However, they weren’t able to capitalize from this and the period was totally dominated by defence of both teams.
The period and game ended with Minnesota Wild winning 3-2. Minnesota Wild made 6 goal attempts in the final period while Colorado Avalanche made 5 goal attempts.
