Minnesota Wild wins 4-1 against the bottom placed Edmonton Oilers
Minnesota Wild hosted the Edmonton Oilers this Tuesday at the Xcel Energy Centre. Both teams played the 60th game of their respective season with the Oilers looking to make it four out four wins. The Wild were expected to come up with an easy
win while unpredictable Oilers could have also won if they played like their last three games.
The first period didn’t see any goals while the second saw both teams scoring a goal apiece. This meant that the final period was going to be very tight and exciting. The Wild were certainly up to the mark in the final period as they scored thrice in the
final period to win the game 4-1 in the end. Pierre-Marc Bouchard, centre of the Wild was the player of the game with his goal and two important assists.
Both teams made a slow start to the game which saw them on the back foot for most of the period. There were occasional attacks and some brilliant plays were constructed by both teams but they weren’t able to come up with any extraordinary from the chances
they got.
Though the teams got better with the passage of time but still no goal were scored. The period saw the Oilers making quite a few goal attempts as the period neared its end but there was no change in the score line as the period ended goalless with the scores
level on 0-0. During the course of the first period, the Wild made 5 goal attempts while the Oilers made 8 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams almost even in terms of offence and shots on goal. The occasional brilliance by both teams continued.
However, this time both teams were able to score. The Wild were the first benefit as they scored in the 10th minute through Martin Havlat from a decent flick shot that put them in the lead. The period continued on the same roads with the Oilers
catching pace as the period neared its end. The Oilers scored in the 18th minute through Kurtis Foster from a quick fired shot to level the scores.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with both teams making 7 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The final period was expected to be very tight considering how the game was played in the first two periods. However, things turned out to be totally different as the Wild emerged as the dominating force in the period.
The Wild scored through Kyle Bozdiak from a backhand shot to get into the lead in the second minute. The Wild capitalized from the strong start they made and score once gain in the 17th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored during power
play by Jared Spurgeon from a long range powerful strike.
Pierre-Marc Bouchard score once again for the Wild in the 15th minute to seal the game. The period ended with the Wild making a few more goal attempts but without any success. The Wild won the game 4-1 as they made 11 goal attempts in the final
period while the Oilers made 6 goal attempts.
