Minnesota Wild wins 4-2 against Edmonton Oilers as it played host to the Canadian franchise
Minnesota Wild hosted Edmonton Oilers this Thursday at the Excel Energy Center which saw Minnesota winning by 4-2 in the end. Both the teams were looking to win the game as Oilers is out of the playoffs while Wild still has a chance to make it into the cut
for which it has to win all of its remaining games.
The game started off with both teams making a few shots on goal but it was Wild that scored the two goals to get into the lead. There were a couple of more shots on goal but they were unable to find the back of the net.
The second period started off with Wild as the stronger team at the start once again and it scored two more goals to extend the lead even further.
Oilers scored a goal in the period and another one in the final period.
The game ended with Wild winning by 4-2 in the end with Matt Cullen named the star as he came up with a brilliant assist in the first goal.
Both teams displayed excellent passing and shooting abilities at the start of the game and had half scoring chances but they weren’t successful in converting them into goals.
However, Wild was able to convert its chances into goals as it scored twice in the eighth minute to get into a good position.
The goals were scored by Antti Miettinen from a tip-in shot and Marek Zidlicky from a quick fired shot.
The period saw both teams making more shots on goal but there was no success. The period ended with Wild leading 2-0 as both teams made nine shots on goal during the 20 minutes of play.
The attacking was much better in the second period for both teams and it was Wild that proved to be productive as it scored in the seventh minute through Brad Staubitz and then through Martin Havlat in the 14th minute.
Wild was the stronger team for a couple of minutes but Oilers started to get better as the end of the period approached. Oilers, with some strong plays, successfully scored in the final minute through Tom Gilbert.
The period ended with Wild sitting in a good position, leading 4-1. During the period, Oilers made 13 shots on goal while Wild made 10 shots on goal.
The final 20 minute of play saw Oilers being the dominating force as it tried to fight back. However, all it could manage in the period was a goal in the 15th minute which was scored by Linus Omark from a well placed flick shot.
The game ended with Wild winning by 4-2 comprehensively despite being restricted to three shots on goal in the final period while Oilers made 13 goal attempts.
