Minnesota Wild’s Guillaume Latendresse to undergo pair of surgeries
The Minnesota Wild were recently dealt a blow after it was announced that forward Guillaume Latendresse would be out of the line-up for an extended period of time.
According to
TSN.ca, Latendresse is slated to undergo a pair of surgeries that will keep him out of action for a minimum period of three months. He will have hip surgery in order to repair a torn labrum, and he will also go under the knife to repair a sports hernia.
“(It’s) frustrating, for sure,” Latendresse told
TwinCities.com. “There are some injuries you can play on all year long, and there are some injuries you want to take care of right away.”
In eight games with the Wild this season, the 23-year-old native of Sainte-Catherine, Quebec has scored three goals and three assists for a total of six points. He also had a plus-minus
rating of +2.
Orignally drafted 45th overall by the Montreal Canadiens at the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft, spent four seasons with the Habs until they dealt him to Minnesota in the 2009-10
season. The Wild sent forward Benoit Pouliot to Montreal in return.
Latendresse show some flashes of brilliance last season with the Wild, scoring 25 goals and 12 assists for a total of 37 points, which was a career high. In 295 career games in the NHL,
Latendresse has posted totals of 76 goals and 52 assists for 128 points. He also has a career plus-minus rating of minus-19.
In order to account for the loss of Latendresse, the Wild claimed forward Patrick O’Sullivan off of waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.
O’Sullivan is an original draft pick of the Wild, who drafted him 56th overall at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Before being placed on waivers by the Hurricanes, O’Sullivan also played for
the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings.
