Minnesota Wild's second round pick of the 2012 NHL Draft Mario Lucia to stay out with leg injury
Mario Lucia, an American ice hockey player, who plays for United States National development team and was selected 60th overall in the second round of the 2011 NHL draft by Minnesota Wilds, has been ruled for three months following a leg injury.
Minnesota Wilds, who play in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL) had drafted this player last year and very much was expected from him but an fortunate break will now affect his hockey career by not letting him play.
Mario’s father Don himself is a ice hockey coach and doing this job for last 24 years now. Fro 1987-1993 he served as the coach of Alaska Nanoonks in Great West Hockey Conference, before moving to Colorado College Tigers in Western Collegiate Hockey Association
(WCHA). Don moved as coach of Minnesota Golden Gophers in 1999 and has been doing that job for last 13 years now. He was twice coached them to win the NCAA division one ice hockey tournament.
The 18-year-old forward has also had the honour of representing USA Under-19 team in the international competitions and is considered to be made a part of USA team in 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey championships. But this would only be possible if he gets
his fitness back as early as possible and starts playing hockey like before soon.
Lucia talked to Minneapolis Star Tribune and told them how he got injured. According to him, in a battle drill one of his team mate’s fell on him accidentally because of which he broke his left fibula and his ligament in the left ankle got damaged. The Fairbanks,
Alaska native also hopes that he would be back soon and he would be back after recovering as he said,
"Hopefully I'll get back quicker than three months, but I'm in a cast for seven weeks, so there's not much I can do about that”.
The 6-foot-2, 185 pounder also said,
"Hopefully I can get a few games in before the world junior camp. In the meantime, I'll just work to do well in school and have a good second half. But this is very disappointing."
