Question:

Minnesota tax for a 16 year old questions?

Hello. So this summer I have been getting anywhere from 20-27% taken out of my check.

Im sixteen and live in Minnesota and I do not know what I claimed on my W-4 form. Is this amount normal?

I know it gets worst when you make more but I only make 7.50 a hour.

Can I claim exempt-student or will they just bill me at the end of the year?

Thank you in advance!

  1. Pretty much depends on how much you are working, on the total you make, not your hourly rate.

They'll take 7.65% for social security and medicare.  For federal and state income tax, it depends on what you make and what you put on your W-4.

There is no such thing as exempt - student.  You can file exempt if you expect to make under $5450 total for the year.
