Question:

Minnow with in-turned belly, swim bladder?

My minnow has an in-turned stomach. He has been very active but this morning, he was swimming kind of shakily and he wasn't swimming with the other minnows. I thought it could be swim bladder disease, so I fed him part of a pea. He won't eat it though. What else could be wrong with him? And why does he have an in-turned belly?

  1. Normally, I would guess it's got fish TB, but with the rapidity of its development, it is rather unlikely.  I would suggest a strong antibiotic like kanamycin + nitrofurazone.  Isolate it from the other fish, and be sure to wash your hands after having them in the water, as this can be spread to humans.  During treatment, remove the activated carbon from the filter.
