I was driving to work this morning and there is a yield sign at an intersection that leads to a one way street. The Truck in front of me yielded and then continued passed the yield sign but then suddenly stopped. I was behind him and had turned my head turned my head to check on coming traffic. The lane we were in is its own lane and is clear for quite some distance before others can join the lane. When I turned my head is when he stopped and once I saw traffic was clear i took my foot off the break and rolled into the rear of his truck. We pulled to the side and he got out and I asked if he was OK. I could tell from the rear of his truck that there was no damage. He said he was OK but that he did feel like it was a pretty hard hit. I asked if he wanted me to call the police and he said he was on his way to work and I responded so am I. He asked for my cell number and I gave it to him and then he either wrote down or took a picture of my license plate. I on the other had was to shaken and didn't even think to get his license number. He then drove off. Is this going to come back on me?

  1. Possibly.  Unfortunately, you're at fault when you rear end, no matter what.  We got in a little fender bender at the beach and the driver of our car didn't give the other people any correct info.  They obtained it somehow because the insurance contacted them about 3 weeks later in regards to that little wreck.

Of course, maybe the driver of the truck is just one of those nice people that will just let it go since there was no damage done....let's keep our fingers crossed...

  2. It could come back on you. You should always call the police when there is an accident. Even if it looks as if there is no damage. My suggestion, call the police and explain what happened. Also, call your insurance company. The reality is, this accident will probably be your fault because you rear ended him (it typically doesn't matter that he stopped in the middle of the road...the belief is that you should have been paying attention).

  3. It may. He may claim whiplash and all of a sudden become an invalid. Although where I live you don't call the cops for minor accidents, some people are out to make an easy buck. Good luck

  4. Ugh!  Sorry for you, bud.  Just cross your fingers and hope he isn't one of those jerks with a dirty scheme in mind.  Honestly, writing down your license plate was kind of wierd.  I always ask for insurance and if they don't have it, I call police.  I never bother with license numbers unless the person drives away (hit and run). ALWAYS exchange info- especially insurance.  If he calls, trying to extort money, call the police and just tell the truth about what's going on. You were certainly at fault in the accident, but not exchanging correct info isn't going to help him in an injury case or an extortion scheme.

  5. All you can really do is wait and hope he never calls his insurance company..

Or fix the paint on the front of your car and say you have no idea how this maniac got your phone number..

  6. Well, you were the one at fault, so if a claim is made, it will be a claim against you. Why the h**l did you give him your cell phone #? Is he going to call you for a date or something? Name, license plate, and insurance info is what is exchanged, not cell phone numbers.
