Minor League Coordinator Bobby Dickerson to take charge of Baltimore Orioles’ third base- MLB News

Long time Minor League coach and manager Bobby Dickerson will be filling the hole left by DeMarlo Hale at the third base after he opted to coach for the Toronto Blue Jays. For the past three seasons, Bobby has been the infield coordinator for the Orioles’
Minor League.
He will be the fifth coach to take charge of the third base after Buck Showalter’s arrival to the ball club in August of 2010. Gary Allenson did not get a new contract at the end of 2010 season, to be replaced by John Russell who is now the bench coach.
Willie Randolph also took the role, coming off the bench but was not offered a contract in 2011 season end. The last coach at the third base DeMarlo Hale has moved himself.
Manager Buck Showalter was looking to fill the position with an in-house candidate and there were a few names that were under consideration. The manager said that the eagerness to hire an internal candidate speaks a lot about the Orioles’ organisational
culture.
“We had a lot of good candidates,” Showalter said. “We’re always going to look within. It says a lot about an organization when you can promote within.”
Dickerson has a decent record as a Minor League manager where he posted a 568-508 winning record in 20 years. He has served in the Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs organisations. He has been a coach with the O’s for a total of eight years.
Buck Showalter has known the 47-year-old for over 20 years and is well aware of his capabilities.
"Bobby's been with our Major League club the last two Septembers and during Spring Training so he is familiar with our personnel; he has experience in Latin America and has been around a lot of winning teams. It is also great to be able to promote from within
the organization," Buck said.
Dickerson was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in 1987 in the 23rd round of the Amateur Draft. He has played in the Minors for seven seasons in both Yankees and Orioles farm systems. Triple-A Rochester Red Wings was his last team in
the Minors, for whom he played his last three seasons.
Bobby himself was delighted at the occasion and his family was present at the time the announcement was made.
"It's just an honor," said Dickerson. "I'm like a lot of guys in the Minor Leagues, I've paid my dues, I've tried to do the rest way the best I could."
Bobby Dickerson is a dedicated coach who has earned his stripes as a coach and manager in the Minors and now is looking at being a part of the big leagues. He will certainly be a great addition to the Baltimore ball club and should be an excellent addition
to the coaching panel of the O’s.
