Minor gymnastics?

Okay, well I dance and I have about a 2-4 pack. It's natural though. So yesterday my friend did a backbend and then kicked off the ground. I think this is called a back walkover or something. (sorry I'm not in gymnastics or anything) So I went into a backbend and I can barely kick off the ground!! Help? Also I am trying to do a front walkover but I'm scared to land so I usually come crashing down. How can I overcome my fear?

  1. First make sure you stretch.

    then go to a wall and "walk" your hands down it until your hands are fully on the floor.

    Next push your body weight over your shoulders, so everything from you hands to your chest is flat against the wall.

    do this for a couple of times and stay flat against the wall for a while.

    after you get use to your weight being over your shoulders, do the same thing without the wall. just pretend like the wall is there....

    Next you need somebody to help you with this part...

    If you are able to hold yourself on your hands, kick as hard as you can with one leg. ask some one to pick up the leg you are kicking and nicely kick your leg over for you.

    practice that, and you should be able to do it. :]

    as for the front walkover, stay tight.and instead of your weight being over your shoulders {as described in the backwalk over" place all of your weight on your legs {make sure your legs areclose to your hands , it's easier.}

    hope this helps

  2. I have the same problem the only thing I can do is a split and backbend. I'm not a gymnast or anything but I am trying to improve my flexibility. i think I'm gonna start by learning the front walkover first and then work on the back walkover. What I do is I stand on my bed (the head of my bed is pushed against the wall), I put my hands in front of me on the bed and ease my feet up the wall then I Kick my feet over my head and do a roll. I haven't mastered landing on my feet yet because it's a lot scarier than you think but I'm getting there.

  3. well first, the reason you can't do it is because you don't take gymnstics.  this makes it harder to have the ability to do certain things (i took gymnastics before i began dancing).  but, this doesn't make it impossible.

    untill you get used to the feeling and comfortable with it, do your back walkover with a spotter.  they don't need any gymnastics experience, then just need to be strong enough to hold you.  have them hold onto your stomach once you are down in the back bend.  then, tell them when you are going to try kicking and have them help you.  everytime you do it, have them help you less.  anyone can do this for you, from friends to a parent.  good luck, and don't get frustrated!

    hope this helps =)
