Should the minor leagues be in the Beijing olympics? Explain why they should and why they cant. Also do you think mlb players should be in the olympics? I mean the Usa basketball team are pros and there in the olympics and not the D League of basketball.

  1. Technicially, minor league baseball players are professionals and they have recieved multi-million dollar signing bonuses if they are drafted in the first round.

Anyway, Major League Baseball doesn't allow players to compete in the Olympics because of the timing of the MLB scheldule. Players in the Major LEagues aren't interested in the Olympics because they would not get million dollar contracts.

  2. Most MLB players would fail the drug test.

  3. Professional sport franchises aren't really going to be excited about letting their paid athletes travel across the world and possibly get injured so they can come home and sit on the bench.  It's a deal they make, if they want to talk to their team owners and take the season off so they can compete in the Olympics then that may be the only way they are allowed to go.

I believe minor leaguers and college players are typically what make up the US Olympic team.  I believe baseball is determined by a tryout, but I'm not certain.

  4. Players are asked, but most refuse,Sammy Sosa competed 4 years ago.
