I have a passion for photography and just in case I don't make enough money to support myself I wanted to have a back-up plan like a major in accounting. So my question is:

If I major in accounting and minor in photography and have a change of heart. Can I still become a photographer with a minor in photography after college? If not what should I do a double major in accounting and photography?

  1. don't even bother with the photography degree at all.  it is not a profession that demands a major.  just get out there and start shooting and practice inventive ways on marketing yourself.   you don't just walk in anywhere with a photography degree and get a job where you get to take pictures.  you'll probably be assisting a photographer.  9 times out of ten that photographer will love to tell stories about how they have no formal training.

save your money.  spend it on equipment.

  2. Yes.  For fields like photography, your ability will speak more for you than the number of classes you took.  You could work as a photographer without a degree as long as you knew what you were doing.  And even with a degree, you might not find a job - a friend of mine had both the degree and ability, but couldn't find a job, so she's doing a masters program in something else.
