A girl I know recently had photos on her facebook of her boyfriend and his cousin handling a real gun very carelessly. In one photo, the cousin was holding the gun to his head suicide-style. My friend is close with the girl's mother and gave her a call, informing her that her daughter is hanging out with kids who are carelessly playing with a gun. We also feel that we should go to the police because the boys have access to a gun and can harm either themselves or others. Also whomever is the actual owner of the gun is not handling it properly because he/she has it in a position where it can clearly be readily accessed by minors. My dad is telling me not to go to the police, and I'm unsure whether or not I should go behind his back.

  1. Okay do not go to they polic, but it is all fun and games until some one gets killed, you will feel responsible.

  2. I think that the owners of the gun have a responsibilty, and are not holding up their end of the bargain to own a gun. This is one time as an adult I will tell you to notify the police, and go against your fathers wishes.

  3. Report the guntoting pictures to the nearest police headquarters in order to prevent any untoward incident.

  4. I hate to sound like a dobber, but if a life is at risk then it is best to go to the police. They are the professionals and have the power to take action if needed.

Too many people die from guns as it is. Complacency will only lead to more deaths...stop the stupidity before it can spread.

  5. While I'm not against the fact than a gun can be accessed by minors (heck, I started shooting when I was 7 years old), I do think that the adult is irresponsible here.  These kids should have been taught to respect firearms.

There were strict rules in my household growing up regarding guns:

    - Don't touch it unless an adult is assisting you.

    - Always treat every gun as if it is loaded.

    - Never point a gun at anything you don't intend to kill.

The adult needs to step up to the plate and set set rules regarding the gun.  A gun is a useful tool, but is NOT a play toy.
