Mira Costa’s boys volleyball team defeats Redondo by 3-1
A thrilling match of volleyball was seen in action on Tuesday, May 3 as the Mira Costa’s boys volleyball team took on Redondo, at the latter’s home court. It was a well deserved and hard fought victory for Mira Costa over their rivals.
By the time the match had reached its close, the Mustangs were celebrating their exciting win over the host team, while Redondo were heading out of the courts in much disappointment. The score board displayed the following final set scores in favour of the
Mustangs: 25-22, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-23.
The recent victory has given the Mustangs their 30th win in this season so far. They have been able to bag these wins at an impressively low cost of suffering just one loss. In league play, the number of times the Mustangs have been able to earn
themselves the honour of a win is seven. Even more commendable is the fact that they have not yet lost a conference match.
In contrast to this, the overall season record of Redondo is not as impressive as that of the Mustangs. So far this season, Redondo have been able to tally only 25 wins in all. These have been bagged at the cost of incurring seven losses. The league play
statistics of Redondo also fall pale to that of the Mustangs as Redondo have earned just five wins. They have been able to scrap off these victories at the cost of registering two losses so far.
The first set of the match started off with both the teams going in for the kill. No one was sure where the tables would turn as both Redondo as well as the Mustangs were playing skilfully. The lead stayed with no team for a long time as the other was quick
to push past. However, as the set reached its final stages, it became clear that the Mustangs were the dominant team. The Mustangs were able to reach the end of the initial set and seal the deal at 25-22.
With the momentum built by winning the first set of the game, it was not hard for the Mustangs to stay in control in the second set. They kept the pressure on Redondo all through the game. As a result, Mustangs took the second set at 25-21.
The third set was the only moment of glory for Redondo which they won 25-21, but the fourth set went the way of the Mustangs yet again, at 25-23.
The Mustangs are now ranked as the number second team in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll.
